Liberty delivered some holiday cheer to the residents of the Massena Rehabilitation & Nursing Center last week when employees dropped off 160 gifts for the residents.
The gifts included lip balm, non-slip socks, and lotion, all purchased with proceeds from a series of fundraising events for Liberty employees throughout November and December, including a chili/soup sale and bake sale.
Each gift bag also included a hand-made picture frame made by local youth who attended Liberty’s “Elves at Work” event earlier in the month. The event offered face-painting, hot chocolate, and other holiday treats. It also featured an ugly holiday sweater contest for the kids where the winner received a $20 movie gift certificate. There was even a special surprise guest – the Grinch! He showed up wearing his Christmas best and gave all the kids who attended a coupon for a free Happy Meal at McDonalds.
“It’s easy to get wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays,” said Liberty New York Gas Vice President Mark Saltsman, “but it’s so important to stop and take care of those around us. Our team wanted to do something that would be fun for employees, engage our local youth, and spread some holiday cheer to local residents.”
